Lana Del Rey, the famous American singer/songwriter, announced she had been an alcoholic since the age of 14. An incident happened that caused her to give up drinking for good. Apparently, she was sent to boarding school at 14 years of age in order to get sober.

She tells her story…” I was a big drinker at the time. I would drink every day. I would drink alone. I thought the whole concept was so f-ing cool”, she says.

“My parents were worried, I was worried. I knew it was a problem when I liked it more than doing anything else”, she goes on to say. “I was like  – I’m fed  – I am totally fed. Like at first it’s fine and you think you have a dark side  – it’s exciting and then you realize the dark side wins every time if you decide to indulge in it. It’s also a completely different way of living when you know that, it’s like being a different species of person”.

“It was horrific. It was the worst thing that ever happened to me”, she recalls.

Del Rey believes she would not have enjoyed the success she has, had she kept drinking. She is the recipient of many awards such as two Brit Awards, two MTV Europe Music Awards, and a Satellite Award.

She has also been recognized with the Variety’s Decade Award at the Variety Hitmakers Awards for being “one of the most influential singer/songwriters of the 21st Century”. She has been nominated for six Grammy Awards and a Golden Globe Award.
