Lovato was hospitalized in 2018 after a drug overdose. “I can genuinely say I feel free of my demons”, stated the singer recently.

Demi, 27, has been open about her addiction and mental health struggles from the start. On the anniversary of her overdose on July 24, she wrote, “And it’s not just because I fell in love, but because over the past two years, I’ve done more work on myself than I have in my entire life.”

The love she is referring to is her actor boyfriend, Max Ehrich. After four months in quarantine together they announced their engagement on July 22.

Ehrich, 29, gave the singer a huge emerald-cut diamond while they were on the beach in Malibu. He reportedly spent weeks designing the massive sparkler.

Lovato wrote in a sweet Instagram post announcing their engagement, “I’ve never felt so unconditionally loved by someone in my life.”

Their engagement was fast but the couple’s closest friends say they got serious from day one. Some have called it “love at first sight.” The couple moved in together just weeks after meeting and then spent most of their time sheltered at home in Los Angeles.

Max Ehrich is most recognized for his role as Fenmore Baldwin on The Young and the Restless. He’s also a singer and was educated at New York’s Professional Performing Arts School. It has been said about Ehrich that “he never seemed interested in the Hollywood partying scene.”

A supportive partner is what a recovering addict desperately needs. Ehrich can understand how constant attention can define a famous person’s life and wants to help Lovato as she continues in her recovery.
