The R&B singer Alsina opens up about healing after loss and addiction. After revealing in June that he had had a romance with Jada Pinkett Smith in 2015, he has no regrets about telling the truth.
He did, however, find himself in the middle of some controversy after “causing trouble” for the actress and her husband Will Smith. Alsina says he never meant to bring up a subject that would make people so very mad.
But after rumors of the affair began negatively affecting his career, he could no longer remain silent. Initially, after he and Pinkett Smith broke up, he kept quiet about their romance. But his late brother Melvin’s former fiancé died from cancer on Christmas day in 2018. At that time he stepped up and gained legal guardianship of their three daughters.
Chaylin, 14, Amaiya, 13, and Kayden, 11, can count on Asina, 27, to be a “present” parent. He says, “I’m striving to be an example to my “naughters”.
The affair began at the height of Alsina’s opioid addiction. He struck up a friendship with Pinkett Smith, 48, at her children’s 2015 concert in London. The friendship turned romantic after Alsina said that he “could really use some help dealing with life”.
The Smith’s have since disclosed that they went through a temporary separation. They shared their side of the story which led Jada to originally call the romance an “entanglement”. After prompting from her husband Will on her Facebook Watch show “Red Table Talk” she ultimately admitted, “it was a relationship”.
