Miley Cyrus is moving on from her recent break-up with musician Cody Simpson. The news broke on August 13th that she and her boyfriend of ten months had split.
Cyrus, 27, quickly dropped a new break-up anthem called “Midnight Sky”. She sings, “I was born to run, I don’t belong to anyone”. She also sings in the chorus of the song, “I don’t need to be loved by you”.
According to sources, she and Simpson, 23, broke up back in July. They are said to be supportive of each other and that there is “no drama”. Simpson said on Instagram Live that they are “individually working on” themselves.
After 10+ years of friendship with Simpson, Miley stresses that they will continue to be friends; telling fans not to be surprised if they are photographed together in the future.
Simpson congratulated Cyrus on her new song, saying on Instagram, “so proud of you”. Despite her often “villainized” heartbreaks, Cyrus is thankful for each past relationship. “I love who I am so much right now that if any of those things hadn’t happened I’m not sure that I would’ve been the same person”.
Cyrus has said she is happy dating a woman or a “confident” guy but she does want someone who lives her same lifestyle. Sober for seven months, she doesn’t want to “help someone on their journey of addiction”. The need to take care of herself is her first priority right now.
