Allison Janney, 61, is an Oscar winner, an Emmy winner, and a Freedom Institute of New York honoree. Last year Janney was honored for her contributions in raising awareness about the issues surrounding addiction and recovery.

Janney opened up about the experience in her own life with addiction that made her want to be a part of her hit show – Mom. “On Mom, I get to see characters that were broken and defeated by alcoholism become part of a community filled with support, acceptance unconditional love – and as a result of that – turn their life around”, says Janney.

She goes on to say that this is a “crucial message to share”. As a codependent Janney says she knows that recovery can be hard for those not wanting to give up control.

Janney lost her brother Hal to addiction in 2011. She says, “He was an addict and an alcoholic. He was also one of my favorite people on this planet. He was incredibly charming and quick-witted, kind and generous, smart and quick to laugh. I miss him every day.”

Janney stars in new a dark comedy about a woman’s rise to fame after her husband disappears. Breaking News in Yuba County is about a woman looking for her 15 minutes of fame. Janney’s character wants to be seen and heard at any cost in order to validate her self-worth.

Janney stars as Sue Buttons. The film also stars Mila Kunis, Matthew Modine, Bridgett Everett, Juliette Lewis, and Regina Hall.
