The recent Tiger Woods DUI scandal has left many of his fans and those who witnessed his battle with legal trouble in 2017 wondering if his addiction to painkillers has taken hold again. Tiger Woods was recently arrested again on March 27 after crashing his Range Rover and flipping the SUV in Jupiter Island, FL. While the golf champion and ambassador for Insperity remained uninjured, he was arrested on suspicion of DUI and released on bail the day of his arrest.
What the Tiger Woods DUI Test Showed
Florida’s Martin County Sheriff’s Office released the Tiger Woods DUI arrest footage earlier this month, showing that the 15-time major golf champion appeared to stumble, slur his words, and had 2 Norco opioid pills in his pocket during his search. The video also shows Woods being seemingly upset while handcuffed in the back of a patrol car.
Records show he blew triple zeros during a breathalyzer exam. Woods, however, refused a urinalysis drug screening, which can lead to serious jail time and a $500 fine in Florida. In Tiger Woods’ case, as a first-time refusal, it could trigger 60 days in jail and is classified as a second-degree misdemeanor.
Did Tiger Woods Relapse?
It’s hard to know for certain whether Woods had any drugs in his system that could have impaired his driving skills and led to the crash. Similar to his 2017 arrest, Woods also blew triple zeros on a breathalyzer, which could mean that while he wasn’t under the influence or impaired by alcohol, he might have been impaired by other substances.
The Norcos in his pocket, his refusal to submit to a urine and blood test, and the arrest footage all show troubling signs that the once household-named athlete is back in the throes of addiction. He wouldn’t be the first celebrity to relapse despite months of soriety, and would be among the up to 88% of people who relapse on opioids.

Not only is Woods known for his plethora of golf championships, but he’s also the face of brands such as Insperity, a human resources provider company, and big-name brands including Rolex, Bridgestone, and Monster Energy. It’s no wonder that this recent Tiger Woods DUI arrest has many questioning if his brand deals will continue, or if his sobriety will lead to serious fallout.
Fortunately, he seems to be sober at the moment as he continues to attend inpatient addiction treatment in Zurich, Switzerland. Per his legal team, Woods will return stateside on May 9 and has his next court hearing scheduled for May 12. He has pleaded not guilty to the DUI charge.
