Is Shia LaBeouf Sober? What His Recent New Orleans Partying Spree Reveals

Actor Shia LaBeouf is a testament to the power that alcohol can have over someone’s life and career, with his recent 2026 New Orleans arrest leaving many fans to ask, “Is Shia LaBeouf sober still?” LaBeouf has had his fair share of legal troubles and addiction-related setbacks, with prior arrests in Los Angeles, New York, Chicago, and Georgia leading to court-mandated rehab. Unfortunately, it seems like he’s now relapsed.

The 39-year-old former Disney Channel star and Transformers frontman faces two counts of battery after he was caught on video bar hopping and getting into physical brawls during this year’s Mardi Gras celebrations. Videos and witnesses show the actor allegedly drinking and getting into altercations with people in the French Quarter, even going back to partying after he was released from jail on February 17th. A New Orleans police report recently obtained by The Associated Press said that LaBeouf “became irate and aggressive throughout the night,” striking multiple people with a closed fist at the Royal Street Inn & R Bar.

When Was Shia LaBeouf Sober Last?

In a 2022 letter to actress and director Olivia Wilde, who is believed to have fired the actor from the set of Don’t Worry Darling and replaced him with Harry Styles, LaBeouf shared that he had been sober for just over a year and a half. He said in his letter dated August 2022, “I write to you now with 627 days of sobriety and a moral compass that never existed before my great humbling that was the last year and a quarter of my life.”

While the letter didn’t bring him back on set, it did give insight into the Shia LaBeouf sober journey, with its constant ups and downs. Now, the actor faces not only legal trouble, but also a split from his wife Mia Goth with whom he shares a daughter.

Will Shia Labeouf Be Sober Again?

It’s estimated that two-thirds of people who go into recovery for alcohol abuse relapse within six months. This makes LaBeouf’s previous sober streak a feat in and of itself, and certainly one that can hopefully be repeated. The actor has spoken before about rehab, his struggles with childhood PTSD, and using mental health treatment and structured recovery programs to get sober.

LaBeouf hasn’t commented on his arrest as of yet, or said whether he will attend rehab once more. But, hope remains high that the Padre Pio star can obtain sobriety again for the sake of his daughter, his loyal fans who have stuck with him since his child days of acting, and of course, the talented actor turned artist himself.
